  • What file format does my issue need to be in?

    A high-resolution PDF with images at 300dpi with no crop marks or bleed works best. What you see is what you get.

  • How do I enhance my content with links and multimedia?

    Using the Design tab, you can easily add as many links and much multimedia as you'd like to your content. You can drag and drop live buttons onto any page or draw a box around any region on the page to make it a link. Buttons and links are truly dynamic, so you can add/edit/delete them at any time (even after the content is live), and they will update in your app automatically.

  • Can I schedule when my issues are released?

    That's up to you. Once your new content has been processed, it will go live on the Digital Release Date you've specified. It can be instantaneous if you'd like.

  • Is the multimedia streaming?

    All video, audio, and web content are streaming and available when online. This significantly cuts down on file size and download speeds.

  • Where is the multimedia hosted?

    The multimedia must be hosted on your site or elsewhere on the Internet.

  • What multimedia formats are supported?

    Your app can play video and audio content, as long as it is in the proper format. For video: YouTube, Vimeo, .m4v, or .mov. For audio: .mp3, .mp4, .aif, or .wav.

  • Does MAZ honor the links and multimedia I have already added in my original PDF file?

    Yes. MAZ honors all embedded links, and makes it easy to make them more dynamic. We are also happy to assist our clients with any questions on how best to add these links automatically.

FAQ: Apps

  • Can I charge for content in my app?

    When you add an issue, you choose how much you want to charge for it. You can also make your content available for free.

  • Can I offer digital subscriptions in my app?

    You can choose to sell subscriptions of various lengths: annual, 6 month, 3 month, or monthly. You can also offer a free subscription, in which case all of the content in the app must be offered for free.

  • Is my app eligible for Newsstand?

    If you are a periodical that publishes more than four times a year and offers in-app subscriptions, then your app is eligible for Newsstand.

  • What is Newsstand?

    Newsstand is a special part of the App Store for magazines and newspapers. Click here for details.

  • Can my existing print subscribers access content in the app?

    This functionality is part of our Enterprise plan. More information available upon request.

  • How often is my app updated?

    You can update the content of your app at any time, as often as you'd like. We do periodic app software updates to add new features, fix minor bugs, and to make sure that the app is up to the latest app standards.

  • Where will my app be available?

    Depending on which plan you choose, your app will be available in the Apple App Store (iPad, iPhone, or both), Google Play (Android tablets, smartphones, or both), or the Amazon Kindle Fire Android App Store.

  • How long does it take for my app to go live after I first submit it?

    It typically takes 2-3 weeks from the time you submit your finished app for it to be approved, but it can vary based on the various platforms' app approval times. Apple approves each app manually, but Google and Amazon can be significantly faster.

  • How long does it take for a new issue to go live?

    That's up to you. Once your new content has been processed, it will go live on the Digital Release Date you've specified. It can be instantaneous if you'd like.

  • Does each new issue have to be approved by Apple?

    Only the app needs to be approved, which only happens once. New issues do not need to be approved by Apple.

  • How long does it take for a new issue to process after I have uploaded it?

    Typically issues take less than 12 hours to process. After an issue is processed, you can enhance it with links and multimedia.

  • What is the MAZ Control App?

    MAZ Control App is an iOS app that can be downloaded on the App Store and used to preview your app and issues before publishing.

  • How do I see new changes on the MAZ Control App?

    Simply tap the refresh button in the app and all new changes will be reflected. Keep in mind that issues must already be processed to view.

  • What sorts of statistics will I have access to?

    MAZ Stats is broken down into downloads, usage, and Stream.

    No, every MAZ account comes with MAZ Stats built in so that you can learn as much as possible about how your users interact with your apps and your content.

  • How often is MAZ Stats updated?

    Your data will be updated approximately every 24 hours so you always have access to the latest information.

  • What are acceptable forms of payment?

    We accept all major credit cards and require that they be kept on file for future payments.
